The Town of Field, BC in Yoho National Park

The town of Field is located in the south-eastern corner of British Columbia, located in Yoho National Park and is in close proximity to five mountain parks: Banff, Jasper, Kootenay, Glacier and Mt. Revelstoke. Field is 20 kilometers west of Lake Louise, 70 kilometers west of Banff , 110 kilometers west of Canmore and 174 kilometers west of Calgary ( A 2.5 – 3 hour drive from Calgary airport).  Field is also 55 kilometers east of Golden B.C..

History: Field owes its origin to the Canadian Pacific Railway. In the early years the site was used as a base for railway construction through the Kicking Horse Pass. In its railway hey day, Field served as a divisional point for railway crews complete with a roundhouse and a luxury hotel named Mt. Stephen House.

Population: According to Statistics Canada the total 2001 population of the immediate area is estimated at 3,135 for the area known as the Columbia-Shuswap, an area which includes the towns of Donald, Field and Parson. Although more recent statistics are not available, the area has experienced growth over the past 7 years. Field’s current population is less than 300.
